a2b Now Supports Voice Navigation for 1.6 Users

google maps navigation croppedGoogle recently rolled out an update to Google maps which now supports voice turn by turn directions.  Finally REAL GPS on my phone!  Since a2b leverages google maps for turn by turn directions this means we also benefit from this update. Unfortunately, the google maps update is only available for 1.6 firmware users.  If you’re not sure which firmware version you’re running go to settings > about phone > firmware version.  If you haven’t done so already make sure you go the android application marketplace and download the latest latest build of google maps (3.2.1 or higher).   Search “google maps” in the marketplace.  After you’ve updated you should be good to go!  I’ve provided screenshots below on how to trigger navigation via your saved location in a2b.  More »

Interview with Wired Magazine ~ Don’t be Discouraged Developers!

wired_logoChris Pick and I had the opportunity to participate in an interview with Priya Ganapati from Wired magazine late last week regarding fragmentation in the android marketplace.  Priya did a phenomenal job writing the piece, but after reading it I could see how some may take our point of view regarding android out of context.  So, I thought I’d provide a bit more context here.

First off, we are not anti-android and by no means do we want to intimidate others from getting involved in android mobile application development.  We were very early adopters More »

Attn DROID 2.0 Key Ring, a2b, and CowPotato Users

bug_no_400Hey everyone, I’ve received several emails asking why our apps can’t be found on the new Motorola DROID.  In short, we prepped ours apps for the 2.0 release earlier this week using the android emulator (phone simulator in development environment), we compiled and released all of our apps for 2.o.  However, when I visited a Verizon Wireless store yesterday I was unpleasantly surprised to find several bugs in each of our apps on 2.0/DROID that were not found while testing using a virtual device.  So, instead of leaving inferior products on the market we decided to pull them off until they could be fixed.  The good news is More »

CowPotato Feedback Requested!

cowMain_250x250CowPotato fans, we haven’t forgot about you!  It’s been a little over 2 months since we released the beta of CowPotato for the android developer challenge….which btw we still have no idea what the results are!  By this time we had hoped to have delivered multiple game-play enhancements.  However, the sad truth is we’ve been catching our breath (pretty much ran the gauntlet trying to get CP finished in time for the contest) and the updates we released have all dealt with performance issues in the background.  Building a 3D game is by no means a simple task and performance is a huge concern.  For example, we had hoped to have added flying cows, grazing cows and various other animations in the game-play by now which we could have done, BUT it would have exponentially increased the game loading time which we’re trying to avoid at all costs.  We have a plan to help minimize impact to the loading time and we’re actively working on game-play enhancements.  However, to continue making progress WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK!!!!  More »

Fragmentation, UHG!

explosionWhen I was in the Army, we dealt with fragmentation all the time.  “watch out out for ballistic fragmentation…”  “make sure to wear your fragmentation vest at all times down range…” etc…. But now, I get the pleasure of battling an entirely new fragmentation!  Android fragmentation!  More »
