The Problem. If you’re an android developer, you probably realize the value of being able to test your code on multiple android devices. The problem is, buying every new android phone released just isn’t economical. Here at Froogloid we have 2 G1’s, 1 MyTouch, 1 DROID and 1 Nexus one which helps us cover several of our testing needs, but certainly not all. There are tons of other android devices out there such as the Hero, Moment, Cliq, Galaxy, Eris, Behold II etc. To test these devices I used to have to do what I referred to as the “wireless carrier 500″. I would literally drive to a T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon store to physically test each device. As you can imaging this is very time consuming, not to mention the retail associates think I’m crazy! Once I told them what I was doing everyone was pretty cool about it and many would start asking questions about our apps / android development. As much as I love showing off our products, this process is wildly inefficient. More »
Happy belated New Year everyone! I thought I’d kick off our first 2010 post with latest Key Ring review from DailySmartPhone.com. Thanks Mitch for the very informative review!
Chris Pick and I had the opportunity to participate in an interview with Priya Ganapati from Wired magazine late last week regarding fragmentation in the android marketplace. Priya did a phenomenal job writing the piece, but after reading it I could see how some may take our point of view regarding android out of context. So, I thought I’d provide a bit more context here.
First off, we are not anti-android and by no means do we want to intimidate others from getting involved in android mobile application development. We were very early adopters More »
At Froogloid we love publicity! With all the great android phones being released lately; HERO, ERIS, DROID, CLIQ, MOMENT, etc…, many of the top technology sites have been taking notice of the great apps available via the android platform. Well, I’m pleased to say that PCworld has rated Key Ring as a top 10 app for android users! More »
I was pleasantly surprised to receive an email from T-Mobile USA this morning letting Froogloid know that they have recommended our Key Ring Reward Cards app to all android G1 users. Sweet huh? We’ve been working with T-Mobile team for quite some time and have been anxiously waiting to find out what they had planned re: Key Ring marketing. We very excited about More »
Hey everyone, I’ve received several emails asking why our apps can’t be found on the new Motorola DROID. In short, we prepped ours apps for the 2.0 release earlier this week using the android emulator (phone simulator in development environment), we compiled and released all of our apps for 2.o. However, when I visited a Verizon Wireless store yesterday I was unpleasantly surprised to find several bugs in each of our apps on 2.0/DROID that were not found while testing using a virtual device. So, instead of leaving inferior products on the market we decided to pull them off until they could be fixed. The good news is More »
CowPotato fans, we haven’t forgot about you! It’s been a little over 2 months since we released the beta of CowPotato for the android developer challenge….which btw we still have no idea what the results are! By this time we had hoped to have delivered multiple game-play enhancements. However, the sad truth is we’ve been catching our breath (pretty much ran the gauntlet trying to get CP finished in time for the contest) and the updates we released have all dealt with performance issues in the background. Building a 3D game is by no means a simple task and performance is a huge concern. For example, we had hoped to have added flying cows, grazing cows and various other animations in the game-play by now which we could have done, BUT it would have exponentially increased the game loading time which we’re trying to avoid at all costs. We have a plan to help minimize impact to the loading time and we’re actively working on game-play enhancements. However, to continue making progress WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK!!!! More »
