Scanning Tips:
Tip 1) Do not use Key Ring at flatbed scanners. Occasionally they will work but often they don’t.
Tip 2) Scan the barcode head-on! Do not scan from an angle. Otherwise, the laser will reflect off the screen and will not scan your barcode.
Tip 3) Turn your screen brightness down. Less bright light means less interference when scanning.
Tip 4) Keep your phone screen clean. Prior to scanning, remove all fingerprints and smudges.
Tip 5) Place the scanner 5 to 6 inches away from the screen. Any closer or further away and it’s unlikely the barcode will scan.
PLEASE note tips 2 and 5 are by far the MOST IMPORTANT!
Troubleshooting:
Barcodes and Logos are Missing: One of the following has occurred.
A. you have removed your SD card
B. changed your SD card or
C. have deleted the “froogloid” folder from your SD card.
Any of these would cause your barcodes and logos to be missing. If copy and paste your “old” froogloid folder to whatever SD card you’re now using you should be able to see logos and barcodes if. If you deleted the folder you’ll need to add your cards again.
Why are the barcodes so small? Depending on the type of barcode you have added, the barcode may appear “small”. After days/weeks/months of testing, we determined that small barcodes typically scan much better than large barcodes. We don’t want to give away all of our trade secrets, you’ll just have to trust us on this one! ;)
After downloading the latest update Key Ring™ forces close. Due to reasons out of our control, some users (typically HTC Hero) receive force closes after updating. To fix, simply uninstall Key Ring then reinstall. If you created a “backup” of your cards prior to uninstalling you can then restore your backup by going to menu > restore. (ALWAYS CREATE A BACKUP. Menu > Backup)
Why does it not work with flat bed scanners? Simply put, there is too much interference when scanning from the phone screen. Handheld scanners work because you can direct the laser very preciously. With flatbeds you do not have that luxury. If we could make them work reliably, we would!
I can’t get my barcodes to scan at the point of sale! First, ALWAYS make sure you’re following the scanning tips. Think of these more like rules, not just tips! Menu > scanning tips. If you’re following these and it still doesn’t work, something out of the applications control is not working. Many variables impact the scanning success to include the type of handheld scanner used, light levels, etc. If you’ve tried and tried and can’t figure it out, quit trying! Key Ring is supposed to make your life easier, not more difficult.
Will the laser hurt my phone? We’re not laserologists, but we’ve never seen or heard of a phone screen being hurt by scanning it with a laser.
Will I be better looking and have more friends if I use Key Ring™? Yes, duh! :)
How do I dowload Key Ring™? Currently Key Ring™ is only available for android phones. To download simply launch the android market app on your phone and search for “Key Ring” or to see an entire list of our apps search for “froogloid”. If you have the barcode scanner application installed simply scan the 2D barcode below to find Key Ring™ in the market.
