New Key Ring Features

Hi everyone, we released an update today with a couple of new features.  You can now configure the background color  to either be “light / white” or “dark / black”.  Personally, I prefer the white background.  It looks better with the blue in my opinion.  The great thing is you can change the color at any time from the Key Ring home screen by selecting “Menu” > “Settings” > “Application Theme”.  In addition we have also fixed the brightness setting bug and completely removed the annoying brightness warning pop up.  You can now save a different brightness setting for each individual card by selecting a card to view > “Menu” > “Adjust Brightness” > make adjustment then “Save”. If you like this update you’re really going some of the other stuff our team is working on…. stay tuned :)

Sprint Likes Key Ring™!

sprint-logoI’m happy to announce that Sprint has listed Key Ringas a recommended app for android.  We feel this is significant accomplishment considering there are 20,000 plus apps for android and Sprint has only selected 32 to recommend!  Thanks Sprint, we greatly appreciate it!

Android Developers, Check This Out…

The Problem.  If you’re an android developer, you probably realize the value of being able to test your code on multiple android devices.  The problem is, buying every new android phone released just isn’t economical.  Here at Froogloid we have 2 G1’s, 1 MyTouch, 1 DROID and 1 Nexus one which helps us cover several of our testing needs, but certainly not all.  There are tons of other android devices out there such as the Hero, Moment, Cliq, Galaxy, Eris, Behold II etc.  To test these devices I used to have to do what I referred to as the “wireless carrier 500″.  I would literally drive to a T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon store to physically test each device.  As you can imaging this is very time consuming, not to mention the retail associates think I’m crazy!  Once I told them what I was doing everyone was pretty cool about it and many would start asking questions about our apps / android development.  As much as I love showing off our products, this process is wildly inefficient.  More »

a2b Now Supports Voice Navigation for 1.6 Users

google maps navigation croppedGoogle recently rolled out an update to Google maps which now supports voice turn by turn directions.  Finally REAL GPS on my phone!  Since a2b leverages google maps for turn by turn directions this means we also benefit from this update. Unfortunately, the google maps update is only available for 1.6 firmware users.  If you’re not sure which firmware version you’re running go to settings > about phone > firmware version.  If you haven’t done so already make sure you go the android application marketplace and download the latest latest build of google maps (3.2.1 or higher).   Search “google maps” in the marketplace.  After you’ve updated you should be good to go!  I’ve provided screenshots below on how to trigger navigation via your saved location in a2b.  More »

Interview with Wired Magazine ~ Don’t be Discouraged Developers!

wired_logoI had the opportunity to participate in an interview with Priya Ganapati from Wired magazine late last week regarding fragmentation in the android marketplace.  Priya did a phenomenal job writing the piece, but after reading it I could see how some may take our point of view regarding android out of context.  So, I thought I’d provide a bit more context here.

First off, we are not anti-android and by no means do we want to intimidate others from getting involved in android mobile application development.  We were very early adopters More »
